Week Two Eye-catcher's.
Kit Gabriel 5.24 Wolverhampton (Saturday)
Of course I’ve had to sneak a class 5 all-weather handicapper in here!
Kit Gabriel is a horse that has hopefully, finally got it all together. He’s recently changed trainer from Amy Murphy to Dave Loughnane and it seems to have worked the oracle. Kit Gabriel travelled awfully strongly in this race and even suffered a small bit of interference when making headway, this didn’t affect him as he won easily. I hope Kit Gabriel will be able to move up the ranks this all-weather season as that performance suggested he was above this grade. I’d be sure he’s got some more winning still to do so long as they give him a winter AW campaign.
Harappan 5:30 York (Saturday)
Harappan is a horse that you’ll probably think ‘why was he eye-catching’, and that’s fair enough considering he was beaten 46 lengths in a Class 4 Handicap. However,
Harappan was bought by a legend in the game (C H Mchgie) after his debut for £180,000. He has steadily progressed to this point and is a huge, brute of a horse that has clearly needed time. He made a mockery of his opposition on his second and third starts and was seemingly well in for his handicap debut. At York he had an awful, wide trip and it just looked as if this race (against tough handicappers) had come too soon for him in his short career so far. He’s such a beast, he may just need a little longer to fill out and show his full potential. I’m willing to forgive him for Saturday and will back him going forward (hopefully at a price😉).
Nitti 1.20 Curragh (Sunday)
It had looked like Nitti faced an uphill task on Sunday against some potentially very smart rivals, he no doubt did struggle for elements of the race, but he stayed on awfully strongly. Noel Meade’s inmate hadn’t really pulled up any trees in his first two races (finishing 8th and 3rd respectively). Yet he looked to take a huge step up on Sunday when finishing with a wet sail. I imagine Noel has peaked him at the right time for the foreseeable as he’ll now get a handicap mark and still looks to be on an upward trajectory. Hopefully he’ll get a fair mark and given time I hope he can improve into something a little smart (step up in trip wouldn’t be out of the picture).
