First Street 144 Coral Cup? Up in trip! -141 (-3) Depsite Nicky Henderson’s Stable Tour comments earlier this season, I think First Street has shaped like he’s crying out for a step-up in trip this season. Worth noting Nico hasn’t asked much of a question in either of his runs. Looks like they’re trying to lower his handicap mark, and his previous runs over further read well too.
Hecouldbetheone Cl3 (and below) Handicap Chases 118 -
116 (-2) Jumped like a stag on chase debut, in a tough Cl3 handicap. There won’t be many better jumping performances from chase debutants this season, specifically at the level he will be running at. Ironically, a mistake at the last exaggerated his finishing position, and forced the handicappers hand. Could very well have left him alone on 118, and he looked like he was still carrying some extra weight, so he should come on for the run fitness-wise. It could also explain the mistake at the last (tiredness/not being 100% fit).
Cap Du Nord 123 Usual Feb-March Targets -
121 (-2) Keeping tracked for his usual yearly targets, a very low mark now. Does need to show he retains ability somewhat, but given connections it’s likely that he does…
Bill Baxter 141 3m+ handicaps -
140 (-1) Ran off of 143 at Newbury, so is essentially 3lb’s lower when he next runs, non-trier at Carlisle, which had a form boost at Newbury. Very good run at Newbury, trip looked to suit too, and he’s unexposed over the “stayers” trips. They’ve already said the target is the National, so he needs at least one win, to get his mark up into the high 140’s, so wherever he goes next, he’ll be trying!
Stolen Silver Non-Festival Cheltenham Handicaps? 157 -155 (-2) Mainly tracked because it’s not very often the handicappers’ drop one the run after a win. I’ve seen countless horses win a race, then run badly the next race, and not get anything back. So, it’s rare to see one run a more than respectable race after a win, and get dropped 2lb’s for it. Usually targeted at Cheltenham handicaps, interesting to see where he goes next. He may still be a tad high in the weights though.
