1:10 Cheltenham - Strictlyadancer 5/1

Today's pick comes in the shape of Strictlyadancer at Cheltenham in the staying chase for amateur riders which he was successful in in 2021. That success came off a mark of 115 and he is now off 122, his last winning mark that came at Haydock when notching up a hattrick. A 7lb claimer takes the ride today which is a huge bonus, effectively putting him on 115. He was fancied last time out at Cheltenham's showcase meeting off 121 but was perhaps given a little bit too much to do out the back and stayed on well through horses for 4th. That was his first defeat at Cheltenham on his 3rd visit. I fancy him to get back to winning ways today for Christian Williams.

2:47 Uttoxeter - Sizing Pottsie 4/1

A risky selection given he’s not finished closer than 28L in his last five starts and has regressed since joining David Pipe, but the yard know how to bring one back to form and a subsequent wind  op may pay dividends. Jack Tudor noted how ‘he weakened quickly’ when last seen which is predominantly an issue with breathing, so the aforementioned wind-operation only seems natural. If that has brought him on, then he’ll be a big player here as he’s seriously well handicapped. He’s 23lbs below when joining Pipe October and he won first time up at Ayr there after a wind op, before bumping into the subsequent G1 Tolworth winner Tahmuras. He drops to the lowest grade he’s faced since his maiden days in 2019, and Gearoid Hanley takes a further 7lbs off meaning he races off 115. His record on heavy ground reads 41121F2 so they’ll be no issue there, and he should be going extremely close here if those breathing issues have been ironed out.

3:39 Wetherby - Ladronne 5/1

Ladronne was a big eye-catcher over 2m3f here on seasonal debut last time out, where his drift in the market matched a rather suspect run. Having initially been prominent throughout as per usual, he dropped through the field with little intention of progressing forward and looked set to weaken completely out of contention. Despite that, he kept on well in the increasingly softening conditions to be beaten ten lengths. That form is yet to be tested, but he steps back up in trip at his beloved Wetherby where his form reads 131524 and is crucially back on his last winning mark which came over this distance at Catterick exactly a year ago today. There should still be scope in his mark given he was only 6L behind the subsequent Ultima 3rd Monbeg Genius in December, and although he’s won first time up after a wind-op, horses do tend to feel the benefit of a run after the operation so perhaps he needed that first run in him.
